I’m not feeling very happy about things as of late. I’ve been doing a lot of self-evaluation (more so than usual), so I guess that’s sort of natural to feel that way.
As I’ve mentioned in the past, one of the biggest things holding me back is being able to pose the figure. It’s understandably a difficult skill, but I feel I suffer from it a lot more than others, maybe because of my dependence on references for poses.
For today, I decided to go with a pretty difficult pose in perspective. You can see I did multiple iterations, which is something I learned from Viscom. My instructor made a really good point that if your current attempt looks like crap, just go back and draw it again. If you can draw it once, then why shouldn’t you be able to draw it again?
I guess it’s essentially the same as thumbnailing, but I was able to develop the pose and refine proportions and anatomy which each successive attempt.
Audacity is really important, and it’s something I need to learn. I’ve harbored this “do it right in the first go” mentality that’s been really wearing me down lately, so I think this is a step in a more positive direction in both my attitude and technique.
